Mid‑Year Reflection: Embracing Acceptance—and Re‑igniting Your 2025 Intentions
Back in December, we looked at 2024 with clear eyes and set our sights on 2025, primed to choose a single, guiding theme for the year ahead. In that blog post here, I shared the lessons that came from my 2024 word, Fun, and invited you to join me in picking a new touchstone for 2025. Now is the perfect time for a mid-year reflection.
When I sat in stillness during my Burning Bowl ritual, one word rang out like a bell: Acceptance. Accepting what is—without resignation—creates the spacious, empowered place from which real change flows.
Well, here we are—halfway through the year! How is your word guiding you so far? I invite you to take the following steps to do an check-in with yourself and your life.
1. Pause and Listen
Take a slow, conscious breath. Feel your feet on the floor. Ask yourself:
-
Where has my word been evident in daily life?
-
Where have I resisted it?
-
What surprising doors has it opened?
Jot down whatever surfaces. No judgment, just gentle observation.
For me, I have not always accepted this year thus far. I have slowly been healing from a fall last year and I do get frustrated some times. I realized recently that my resilience had weakened as many health issues have surfaced over the last year. Most recently, I came home from an epic trip and the next day came down with the flu. I experienced a return to experiencing depression. I realized that I was slipping and did what I could to bring my spirits back up. You can read my many strategies in my August 2024 blog post here. As I was getting better from that, a stye developed on the rim of my eye. I decided this time that I would accept my circumstances and not let it bum me out or get discouraged. I continue to repeat that I am healthy in mind, body and spirit in every way. I’m sharing this to let you know that it’s okay if we get down sometimes. It’s an invitation to see what is not working, so that we can course correct.
But I have had some doors open for me, I attended two amazing retreats this year offered by Anita Moorjani and Helane Marie Anderson. My energy and hopefulness has increased in beautiful and positive ways. I’ve met new friends and clients through these experiences. I found space to rejuvenate and reflect on where I want to go. I am grateful.
2. Revisit Your Intentions
Remember the goals you set alongside your word of the year back in January—maybe written on the Word‑of‑the‑Year worksheet or tucked into your journal. Compare where you are now to where you hoped you’d be. Celebrate wins—and celebrate the data of missed steps. Acceptance means seeing the truth with kindness and love for ourselves.
My intention of Acceptance remains the same. It doesn’t mean that I don’t take steps to meet my goals. It does mean that I strive to accept where I am in my life and love myself through it.
3. Realign for the Second Half
Use my mid-year reflection insights from your check‑in to fine‑tune how you embody your word:
Focus Area | Micro‑Shift to Practice | Why It Matters |
---|---|---|
Mind | Morning mantra: “I accept, I reflect, then I act.” | Re‑wires default resistance into creative response. |
Body | 60‑second body scan before big decisions. | Noticing tension shows where acceptance is lacking. |
Spirit | Weekly “acceptance meditation” (5 or more minutes of simply sitting with what is). | Builds trust that I can hold discomfort and still thrive. |

Closing Thought
Acceptance isn’t passive—it’s the courageous decision to anchor in the present moment so transformation can take root. Take the time for your mid-year reflection now. You are worth it.
As we step into the brighter half of the year, may your word continue to light the way, may your intentions feel fresh again, and may you always Live the Song of Your Soul.
