In a world where division, stress, and disconnection seem to dominate headlines, the creation of Summit for Peace & Collective Well-being was born from a desire to shift the energy — together. At Live Life Spiritual Direction, we believe that peace isn’t just a lofty ideal. It’s a practice. A lived experience. And it begins with us — as individuals and as a community.
This summit, held on Thursday, August 7th in Whitewater, Wisconsin, was more than an event. It was a gathering of hearts, minds, and souls who are committed to becoming conscious co-creators of a better world. But this isn’t just about “feeling good” — it’s also backed by science. And that’s where things get exciting.
The Power of Collective Intention: What Science Says
For centuries, spiritual traditions around the world have taught that group prayer, intention-setting, and meditation have the power to heal, uplift, and transform. In recent decades, science has begun catching up to what the mystics already knew.
1. The Maharishi Effect
One of the most well-known studies in this field is called the Maharishi Effect. In the early 1980s, researchers found that when a group of approximately 7,000 people practiced Transcendental Meditation (TM) together over a three-week period, there was a statistically significant drop in global crime, violence, and conflict.
Later, during studies in Washington D.C. in 1993, a group of trained TM practitioners gathered to meditate on reducing crime in the city. According to the findings, as the number of meditators increased, violent crime decreased by as much as 23%, even after controlling for weather and other variables.
2. Global Consciousness Project (GCP)
The Global Consciousness Project, developed at Princeton University, uses random number generators placed all over the world to measure the effects of collective human focus. When large groups of people focus on a single emotional or spiritual intention — such as peace during a global event — the random data begins to show significant patterns, suggesting a measurable change in the “field” of consciousness.
These findings imply that collective focus has a real and measurable impact on the physical world.
3. Heart Coherence and Group Energy
The HeartMath Institute has done extensive research on heart coherence — a state where your heart, brain, and emotions are in energetic alignment. They’ve discovered that when people intentionally generate feelings like gratitude, compassion, and peace, their heart rhythm becomes more coherent.
Even more fascinating: when people meditate together, their heart rhythms can begin to synchronize. This group coherence creates a kind of energetic field that others can feel and respond to — even without words.
Recently, I attended a retreat where 100+ were meditating together. The meditation was over an hour but felt like 10 minutes. The energy of the group allowed for a deeper, more profound experience. So much so, that I even felt like parts of it were similar to some of my experiences in past plant medicine ceremonies.
Why We Gathered in Person
While virtual connection is powerful, something even deeper happens when we gather in person. Eye contact. Breath. Intention. Touch. The energy becomes tangible. You don’t just talk about peace — you feel it.
The Summit for Peace & Collective Well-being was created to be a sacred space where:
-
Individuals can heal
-
Communities can connect
-
Ideas can be shared
-
And peace can be practiced — together
From meditation and movement to healing circles and intention rituals, every aspect of this day is designed to create inner harmony that ripples out into the world.
