Last night, I was blessed to hold a workshop called “Manifesting Your Vision”. Teaching is one of my passions and I get so much energy from it. And I learn so much. Yes, the teacher learns from her students. While I may know more about specific spiritual paths and traditions, I have my own blind spots, wounds, and knowledge gaps. I was reminded of this during the workshop. Each workshop participant brought their own experiences and manifestation techniques with them and was willing to share with an open heart. I am so grateful for that.

So what is my “stuff”? What does the healer need to heal? I often catch myself trying to make things happen more than trusting the Universe to bring something to me. That may be around my business, my teaching work, or personal tasks and goals. While I consciously know that attracting and allowing Spirit to assist me is much more enjoyable and satisfying than working non-stop to achieve a goal, I still find myself overdoing it to achieve my vision. This has created dis-ease in my body in various forms. Most recently, I broke my toe. Louise Hay in her book, Heal Your Body, relates an injured toe to not trusting life. The affirmation is “All details take care of themselves”. And then last night, a wise student (I will call her Barb) shared with us her new morning routine. When Barb wakes up she counts her blessings. She lists as many things that she can think of that she is grateful for. She refuses to look at her phone until she is ready to start work. She allows herself to frame her day and be in ease and grace. She won’t start her day until she feels ready. You may have heard the adage, “well begun is well done”. Well, well done, Barb! What a wonderful way to start the day.  Barb said that it has been a game-changer for her. So I decided to give it a try. But before I did, I got support last night. I asked my prayer partner to know that this new morning routine was taking place for me. That I am moving from a human doer to a human being. Primed with prayer I was ready this morning. After I got out of bed, I gave myself plenty of time to meditate. I took a bath instead of a shower and listened to uplifting and soothing music. I resisted the urge to get to work. I went to yoga. And then I was ready to start my day.

Did that change things? Absolutely. Not only have I felt little to no stress all day, but the Universe also conspired to make my day easier. I had a meeting rescheduled, giving me more time to work on a deliverable. I experienced a beautiful synchronicity too. In yoga class, the teacher talked about the freedom of non-attachment. About how when we get attached to things (possessions, relationships, etc.), we are disappointed when we lose them or things change. And change is inevitable. If we are attached to things staying as they are, we will be disappointed all of the time. So what’s the synchronicity? When I returned home from yoga, I saw a post on my Live Life Spiritual Direction Facebook page. I scheduled it last week and forgot about it. This is what I posted. You can’t make this stuff up.

Our journey is about being more deeply involved in life, and yet, less attached to it. - Ram Dass

So who heals the healer? The healer heals herself. Clients and students heal the healer. Collectively, we heal each other.
